My obsession with carving pumpkins started back a couple of years after my graduation from college. I always enjoyed carving pumpkins, but as I was dating my wife Christine we got into celebrating the holidays together and we started going over to her sister and brother in-laws to carve pumpkins for Halloween. Steve, Christine's brother in-law had worked at Shop Rite at one time and was a Produce Manager and learned to carve watermelons for display. This was before patterns started becoming popular and all his work was original and "FREE-HAND (inside joke)." We were both creative and it became sort of competition between us on who could make a cooler pumpkin and he usually won. This friendly competition along with pumpkin patterns and designs being sold commercially drove my passion and obsession for carving out pumpkins every October. Yet as this obsession grew I'm not sure which was worse getting that cool and unique pattern or collecting every possible gadget and tool used for carving pumpkins. My now brother in-law Steve's interest in carving as dwindled, but he is the reason that I enjoy carving each year and as long as the The Great Pumpkin keeps coming every year leaving pumpkins to pick I will try and out do the previous years creations.

While this event pays tribute to Halloween and Sleepy Hollow Country, Blaze transcends its Halloween roots and is now a classic fall festival. We attended the blaze for the first time in 2011 and it will now be a halloween tradition. If you like pumpkin carving and you live in the surroounding are of New York this is a must see.
